About Environmental Expeditions

Environmental Expeditions plans and coordinates travel programs for students, educators, naturalists, and health professionals. We provide promotional materials, destination information, pre-trip checklists, and resource materials. We are committed to maintaining personal contact throughout the year, providing timely information, and using only the highest quality of travel services. We assist each teacher in preparing his or her students by setting a global perspective, inspiring curiosity and excitement for understanding rainforest environments, and demonstrating interconnections with your local ecosystem. We intend to reinforce students' work at school and strengthen their commitment to further study. For continued cultural connections, teachers and students can also participate in the Adopt-a-School program offering cultural exchange and assistance to schools in the Amazon in the area that we visit during the workshops.

Celebrating twelve years of nature travel and hosting hundreds of educators and naturalists, we see hosting the Student Rainforest Workshop program these last couple of years as our opportunity to directly help young people develop an environmental worldview.

Rainforest Workshop Director Frances Gatz continues a commitment to experiential learning, environmental awareness, and cultural sensitivity. Dr. Gatz completed her Ph.D. at Indiana University in Instructional Systems Technology. She has directed the Rainforest Workshops series, an annual summer program, since 1992. During this time she also held the position of Education Outreach Manager for Project 2061 of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and served on the 20-member Geography Planning Committee for the National Assessment of Educational Progress. Prior, while she was a partner in EcoVentures, an environmental media company, she was a co-creator of The Ecotourism Society, an international non-profit organization designed to ensure that travel to environmentally sensitive parts of the world benefits conservation and the well being of local people.
